In this passage of scripture the prophet Elijah was searching for peace from within. Elijah in chapter 18th had just demonstrated the power of God by calling fire down from heaven, killing the 450 false prophets Baal.
However, what he failed to realize is the Devil is not of afraid of the power of God but he is terrified of the presence of God.
There is a difference between the power and the presence. All too often we dwell looking for the power of God to fix us and our situations and when it is not given or doesn’t show up then we are lost.
Jezebel didn’t turn tail and run but she dug in even more threatening to kill Elijah because of what he had done. The Devil is not afraid of the power of God he is terrified of the presence of God.
When we plead the blood of Jesus it doesn’t bring the power but it evokes his presence and his power to do battle on our behalf. Elijah realizes that he in his power has failed so he flees. He asked God to kill him because he realized in his power he was nothing. But this is where God’s wants us. He wants us to understand that we can’t fix it or fix us.
So God begins to feed Elijah…And he wants to feed us his word. He knows the more we feed on Him the stronger his presence becomes in us. Elijah gains peace when he learns to listen for God’s voice then to seek his power.
It is in God’s small still voice that victory and peace is waiting for you.
Jesus said my sheep know my voice!
If you need peace today listen for your answer of hope and strength by following the voice of God and stop looking for the power.
